The Power of Storytelling: Merry Christmas

I'm acutely aware that Christmas is not the only holiday the world celebrates this time of year.  I'm lucky, perhaps blessed, to have a diversity of customers and friends that keep me mindful of such things.

But Christmas is pretty high up there in brand awareness, so to say, and a friend of mine sent me this video two days ago, and since then it's had over two million new viewers on YouTube!

Here's why I'm posting it: the power of storytelling.

I'm not the first to point out that stories put things into context, and they're memorable.

With a good story, Wall Street investors buy what the numbers might hide.  With a good story, customers buy what they might take time in figuring out for themselves.  With a good story, friends laugh at a dinner parties.  With a good story, children drift happily off to sleep.

The story of Jesus is known by many, believers and non-believers alike, as the greatest story ever told.

And here's an updated and very cute version of that story.  When I first started viewing it, I thought, "Uh-oh, the more passionate believers are going to take offense."  But as it un-folded, I thought it was one of the funniest videos I've seen this year, and certainly, one of the more memorable.

And that's what great stories do.  They blend logic, emotion, feelings and vision.  Great stories stick.

Enjoy it, and enjoy the holidays.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Ramadan, and we can keep working our way east.

Season's greetings to all, and remember, the power of a good story.
