Mel Kelly is a glutton for punishment.
The transplanted Irishman was killin’ it with his standup comedy acts in Munich, Germany. Then he took his show on the road.
He got himself booked for six gigs in six different comedy clubs in Dublin, his hometown.
“It was the scariest thing I’d ever done in my life,” he says.
Family. Hometown friends. What could possibly go wrong?
He went out there the first night… and he bombed.
Not. One. Laugh.
“It was a car crash,” he laughs.
And so was the second night. And the third.
But wait! There’s more!
This came after six straight years of of having a run at the Toastmasters Humorous Speech Contest, and making it to the European Finals four times, falling short each time.
So what did he do?
Well, he is a glutton for punishment. And this is standup comedy.
